Brooklyn Misdemeanor Defense Attorney
Defending the Accused throughout New York City & Nassau & Suffolk Counties
In the State of New York, the legislature has classified misdemeanor offenses into two distinct levels. The first is the A misdemeanor, which is the more severe of the two, and is punishable with a maximum of 12 months of incarceration. There are alternatives to incarceration, such as a three-year probation condition, a quantity of restitution, community service, a predetermined program, etc. The second classification is a B misdemeanor which is punishable by up to six months of jail.
If you have been arrested for or charged with a misdemeanor, do not make the mistake of believing your charges are not serious. Contact the Brooklyn misdemeanor defense attorney at The Law Offices of Wilson Antonio LaFaurie to discuss your legal rights and options during a free consultation.

Examples of A & B Misdemeanors
Some examples of A misdemeanors include:
- Assaults in the third degree
- Menacing in the second degree
- Stalking in the third degree
- Sexual misconduct
- Sexual abuse
- Unlawful imprisonment in the second degree
- Criminal mischief in the fourth degree
- Petit larceny
- Forgery in the third degree
- Criminal contempt in the second degree
- Criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree
B misdemeanors are the same as A misdemeanors but the elements of the offense are not completed. Thus, an attempt to commit one of the above acts constitutes a B misdemeanor.
How Our Firm Can Help
The Law Offices of Wilson Antonio LaFaurie has handled thousands of misdemeanor cases in Suffolk County, Bronx County, Kings County, Richmond County, New York County, and Queens County. In fact, 70 percent of all arrests in New York either start out as a misdemeanor or end as such. Only about 10 percent crawl themselves to a jury trial.
Our firm has achieved a 90 percent acquittal rate over the last 13 years. To continue having such a high winning ratio, a law firm must build the defense from the beginning and not wait until the eleventh hour. Any successful trial attorney understands that victory must be sought out from the introduction of the arrest. Each stage of the criminal justice system has opportunity for the eagle-eyed lawyer. The truth is, if the lawyer does not have a clear roadmap outlining the possible defenses and the vulnerability of the prosecution's case at each stage, then the defense is leaving it up to chance. Fancy words, a nice suit, and handshakes will not be enough at the end of the day. Investigation, trial experience, and relentless preparation will.
