Brooklyn Homicide Defense Lawyer

If you have been charged with murder, you need a lawyer on your case from day one. Mistakes made early in your case can result in wrongful conviction and a lengthy prison sentence for something you didn't even do.

Fewer than 5 percent of all criminal lawyers have ever tried a single case involving a homicide. I have represented defendants accused of murder spanning New York state, including Brooklyn, New York, Queens, Suffolk, Nassau and the Bronx.

I am criminal defense attorney Wilson LaFaurie. From my law office in Brooklyn, I represent clients throughout the New York City area who face murder charges, including negligent homicide. The legislature in the state of New York and the common law have carved the following defenses:

  • Justification
  • Alibi
  • Extreme emotional disturbance
  • Insanity
  • Renunciation

Each and every one of these defenses must be contemplated when confronting a murder or other violent crime charge.

Murder And Homicide Cases I Handle

I am a former assistant district attorney, and in my current boutique law offices, I have successfully represented individuals throughout the state who were charged with:

  • First- and second-degree murder
  • Criminally negligent homicide
  • Aggravated criminally negligent homicide

In addition to representing defendants in murder cases, I also represent clients facing manslaughter charges.

Don't Speak To Police Without A Lawyer Present

Murder in New York is punishable by a prison sentence of 15 to 25 years to life. Manslaughter, which is causing someone's death without the intent of killing him or her, is punishable by 15 to 25 years in prison. Vehicular manslaughter, which is causing a person's death by recklessness such as driving while intoxicated or discharging a firearm into the air, is punishable by up to 15 years in prison.

When so much is at stake, you should not say anything to police before speaking to an attorney. Police may say they only want to get your side of the story. However, police usually know more than they are telling you. There is nothing you can say that will help your case, and you could end up giving police the evidence they need to charge you. Once you have a lawyer present, police questioning will stop.
